My First Private Gallery Viewing

Saturday July 13th 2024 is a historic day for me, as it marked the first private viewing of my work.

M & J browsing the gallery

When my painting “Puddled Fairground” sold to an art collector in Pennsylvania, I figured it would be just another sale where I would have to box up the canvas and haul it down to my local post office.

However, what started as a simple online sale turned into a much bigger event! Instead of paying for expensive shipping, the collector (who we will call “M”) decided to embark on a road trip from Pennsylvania to my little village of Waterdown, Ontario.

As this was technically my first “viewing by appointment”, I wanted to make it special for M. I gathered all my canvases from around my home, boxed them up and drove them down to my studio, where I stayed until 2am, hanging art on the walls and getting an easel display ready. I also bought these lights which were a quick and easy solution for making the space feel more like an art gallery.

M brought her best friend along for the ride, who took one look at my “Erosion in Red” painting and bought it on the spot! I was thrilled that two of my original canvases were going to good homes just south of the border.

My friend “C” then came to the studio later that afternoon to check out my work and celebrate my inaugural gallery – look at the beautiful cake she brought to commemorate the occasion. My kids were both very happy 😋

And speaking of my kids, no exhibition would be complete without a visit from the fam!! My 5 year old and 2 year old were excited to see all my work displayed in a space that wasn’t their home. Although, they were also quite confused by all the bare walls when they came downstairs for breakfast that morning. I suppose this just means I need to paint some more pieces for our home? Oh shucks, what a shame!

My daughter was a big fan of “Glacial”
…while my son loved “Shadows in the Harbour”

Here are some photos I took of my artwork on display.

All in all, it was a fantastic day, and now that the first private viewing is complete (and I have proven to myself that I CAN pull this off by myself), I hope there will be many more events like this!

Thanks for reading!
